When Can You Get The COVID-19 Vaccine?

Vaccinating NOW as of January 18, 2021:

  • Phase 1A-Tier 1, Phase 1A – Tier 2, Phase 1A – Tier 3, Phase 1B – Tier 1
  • Healthcare workers, others in Phase 1A (all Tiers), and those aged 75 and older may visit County vaccination sites, including the Petco Park Super Station.
  • For those 65 and older, the County intends to begin vaccinations for this population before the end of the month, pending vaccine supply.

What is the difference between the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines?
Both vaccines are messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines. They both use lipid molecules to move the vaccine into the cell, but each company uses different lipids. In part due to the lipid ingredient choice, Pfizer’s vaccine requires a colder temperature for storage.

Where can I find testing locations?

COVID-19 tests are used to evaluate your health for COVID-19 infection and help public health agencies control the virus’ spread. Testing also helps identify specific areas and groups with higher rates of infection. Understanding these patterns is important to protect the public’s health and continue safely reopening the County.

If you are experiencing symptoms, contact your healthcare provider. If you do not have a healthcare provider, call 2-1-1. If you have serious symptoms, like difficulty breathing, call 9-1-1.

Free tests and walk-in tests (no physician order) are available through the County of San Diego.
